NMDOT Traffic Report: Week Of April 27

NMDOT News:

NMDOT asks all motorists to reduce speed, obey all posted traffic signs, use caution and watch for heavy equipment and construction personnel in all work zones.

Interstate:

I-40, mile marker 4.73 – 5.06, Manuelito Canyon, east of the Arizona/NM state line

AUI, Inc. (Contractor) resumed bridge replacement and roadway reconstruction March 30, 2020. Replacement of the westbound bridge was completed last year. The contractor continues with demolition of the eastbound bridge and work in the channel. Once this work is complete, the contractor will work on replacement of the new bridge. During construction, eastbound traffic will be detoured onto the westbound passing lane through a median crossover. Speed will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Lane closures and traffic control shall remain in place 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All work is expected to be complete in late 2020.

I-40, mile marker 39.9 – 42.5, Ciniza Refinery/Jamestown, east of Gallup

FNF Construction Inc. (Contractor) resumed roadway reconstruction March 30, 2020. The contractor has begun construction of the eastbound climbing lane, reconstruction of the westbound lanes, rehabilitation of a concrete box culvert, installation of new guardrail and concrete wall barrier and new signing and striping. During construction, eastbound will have two lanes open to traffic. The westbound driving lane will be closed with access to Exit 39. Speed will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Lane closures and traffic control shall remain in place 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All work is expected to be complete in late 2020.   

I-40, mile marker 8.2 – 131, McKinley & Cibola Counties

J-H Supply (Contractor) will begin replacing the guardrail and end treatments along I-40, on the eastern limits of the project from mile marker 131.5 – 104.8 (from To’hajiilee to Cubero). Work began April 20, 2020. Traffic can expect westbound single lane closures, followed by eastbound single lane closures as the contractor is performing these safety improvements. Speed will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Contractor will continue moving west into McKinley County until all work is complete. All work is expected to be complete in spring 2021.

US Roadways:

US 491, mile marker 8.0 – 15.03, Yah-ta-Hay to Twin Lakes, north of Gallup

Highway Supply, LLC (Contractor) is almost complete with all work on the project. There are currently no impacts to traffic. All final work is expected to be complete in May 2020.

US 491, mile marker 32.733 – 37.076, Buffalo Springs to Naschitti

Fisher Sand & Gravel (Contractor) has begun roadway rehabilitation. Passing lanes will be closed in both directions at various locations to allow the contractor to build the crossover detours. Once detours are complete, northbound traffic will be detoured onto the southbound passing lane. The contractor will work on the northbound lanes first, followed by the southbound lanes. Speed will be reduced to 55 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Lane closures and traffic control shall remain in place 24 hours a day 7 days a week. All work is expected to be complete in late 2020.

State Roadways:

NM 4, mile marker 18.5 – 19, north of Jemez Springs

Structures Inc. (Contractor) will resume bridge replacement and roadway reconstruction. The bridge was replaced last year, however work will continue on the MSE walls and railings. Currently, the project is on partial suspension and there are no impacts to traffic. Once work resumes, traffic can expect shoulders to be closed with various alternating lane closures. Speed will be reduced to 35 mph through the work zone. The contractor’s work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in late 2020.

NM 371, mile marker 56.3 – 57.4, Lake Valley

Fisher Sand & Gravel (Contractor) will begin Roadway Rehabilitation work in April 2020. All work will begin on the project southern limits, working on the northbound lanes first, then the southbound lanes. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions with a pilot car operation. Drivers should expect delays and plan travel accordingly. The contractor’s work hours will be from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. All work is expected to be complete in May 2020.
