While on a morning walk today, local resident Amy Storey spotted this young bear at the top of the roundabout, near Chamisa. It quickly ran off when yelled at it, she said, but headed toward Barranca Mesa. “I noticed lots of garbage cans outside, not in the garage, tomorrow is pick up for this area so probably some are smelly,” she said. “Can everyone remind neighbors to keep cans in the garage until the morning of garbage day? Please don’t make me get a bullhorn and be the ‘Garbage Can Monitor’ … it’s time for us to do our part to protect bears … be good humans!” Photo by Amy Storey
