LSCU News:
The Los Alamos Schools Credit Union (LASCU) broke ground Thursday on its new building at 1010 Central Ave.
The new building is centrally located in downtown Los Alamos next to the Bradbury Science Museum. Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation also will join LASCU in the new building.
“We are excited about this first step toward building our new LASCU home,” LASCU CEO/President Matthew Schmidt said. “We look forward to the opportunity to better serve the education community from this new, convenient location along with the newest technology and expanded membership eligibility. Follow the construction progress with our regular blog posts as building begins.”
Los Alamos County Council Chair Sara Scott said the County is proud to have been a participant in the new LASCU venture through the sale of excess County land adjacent to the Municipal Building lot, as the land was always anticipated to be used for a commercial purpose.
“We are equally pleased that the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation will be joining LASCU at 1010 Central,” Scott said. “The credit union’s mission, membership and program goals are a great compliment to the Foundation and I am confident that the new space will provide additional ways for the two organizations to collaborate. We appreciate the work of the credit union within our schools – in their athletic and music programs, support for local youth activities such as the YMCA, Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, and participation for educational outreach during our annual ScienceFest activities. We look forward to having them in the future as our new ‘next door neighbor’ downtown!”
Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus said that he is thankful for the service provided to LAPS staff and believes that it will be even better with the new facility.
Living Designs Group Architects representatives expressed that they are pleased to be a partner in developing this state-of-the art main branch location for Los Alamos Schools Credit Union. They said LASCU has been a great partner throughout the design process and they look forward to building a facility that embodies the mission of the Credit Union.
R and M Construction representatives said they are excited to work with Los Alamos Schools Credit Union on construction of its new facility, and said LASCU has a great reputation among the community and they are happy to work with them on this project.
