CURTIS MONTGOMERY KLATT March 6, 1959 – Oct. 16, 2020

Monty Klatt, age 61 passed away in a tragic vehicle/pedestrian accident on October 16, 2020.

He was born on March 6, 1959 in Española, NM. Monty grew up in Los Alamos and graduated from Los Alamos High School.

He enjoyed playing baseball and football, he wrestled and skied, both snow and water skiing.

He loved animals, as a boy on family vacations he had chipmunks eating out of his hand. Monty loved his family, he was a fun loving uncle who delighted in his nieces and nephews. He was a true friend and through the years cared for those in need. His big bear hugs will be missed.

Monty was involved in ¼ mile drag racing for many years. With his “Tough Enough” race car, he took on the quarter mile in 11.8 seconds, nearly 120 miles per hour. From 1988-1996 he won multiple awards in the Southwestern Drag Racing Association, including season pro in 1989 and Pro ET champion in 1995.

Monty owned a home in Albuquerque, and many relied on his meticulous care for their landscaping through his business, Roadrunner Tree Trimming. Prior to starting his own landscaping business, he worked as a checker at Price Club/Costco. 

He is survived by his father, Calvin Klatt, his brother, Wayne Klatt, his sisters, Deborah de la Cruz, and Karen Griffin and many nieces and nephews. Monty was preceded in death by his mother, Oneta Klatt.

A 2021 summer picnic is being planned to celebrate Monty’s life.
