Stop by the Los Alamos Nature Center, operated by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), Tuesday, Dec. 22 for a special opportunity to shop the gift shop in-person.
This event will be held 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside the front doors and is a wonderful opportunity to finish up that holiday shopping while supporting PEEC at the same time.
To encourage social distancing, PEEC will be limiting one household per display table at a time, and masks will be required. Shoppers can browse PEEC’s 2021 calendars, science kits, toys, nature guides, books and so much more.
The Los Alamos Nature Center is at 2600 Canyon Road. Those unable to shop in person, can shop PEEC’s online store anytime and receive curbside delivery. Visit peecnature.org and click the “Online Shop” button to go to the online store.
In addition to this in-person shopping day, PEEC is teaming up with the Los Alamos County Library System’s Youth Services team to offer a StoryWalk® at the nature center. This installation will feature the book “The First Day of Winter” by Denise Fleming and be set up starting Monday, Dec. 21, which is the official first day of winter.
Visitors can stop by anytime to enjoy this installation until it is taken down Jan. 31, 2021. The organizers ask that participants stay six feet apart, wear masks and remember to be kind and patient to other visitors. There will be a no-touch check in using a QR code and visitors can send photos of their child by any page of the StoryWalk® for a chance to win a copy of the book. The Los Alamos Nature Center remains closed to the public due to COVID-19, but PEEC continues to offer a wide-variety of online events to help Northern New Mexicans continue to connect with nature as well as limited in-person opportunities. Tune in on most Tuesdays at 7 p.m. for nature talks, Fridays at 7 p.m. for astronomy talks and Sundays at 10 a.m. for PEEC’s weekly yoga class. Visit peecnature.org/events to see what’s coming up.
The StoryWalk® project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
