JTIP News:
SANTA FE — The Job Training Incentive Program (JTIP) Board approved funding for eight businesses in support of a total of 87 employees in December, (71 trainees and 17 interns), Economic Development Department Cabinet Secretary Alicia J. Keyes announced Monday.
Each month the board convenes in order to review applications from businesses all over New Mexico who wish to get funding in order to help train new employees or up-skill current ones. JTIP funding encourages businesses to continue to move to or expand business in the state and continue growing jobs for New Mexicans.
The total JTIP funding awarded in 2020 was $20.7 million in support of 2,380 New Mexican jobs – 29% of that total for rural jobs and 71% for urban. The average wage in 2020 was $18.61 an hour, over $38,000 a year.
“New Mexico’s nationally recognized job training program is going to be a vital tool to support businesses as they create jobs and retrain employees in the coming months,” Cabinet Secretary Keyes said. “We are grateful to the governor and lawmakers who support JTIP and see job training as integral to the state’s recovery.”
Companies funded this month hail from Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe. Trainee wages run from $19 to $57 per hour and intern wages from $17.50 to $22.50. The eight companies funded are a great representation of the diverse and high-tech industries that make our economy resilient and will help New Mexico weather the post-pandemic economic recovery.
