LAPS News:

Earlier this month the Los Alamos Middle School Student Council hosted a Mental Health Fair for students, families and community members.

While attendance was small, Student Council recorded all sessions, which are available for viewing here.

Mental Health is the community service theme for the NMASC (New Mexico Association of Student Councils), according to LAMS Student Council sponsor Christina Wadlington.

“The LAMS Student Council came up with the idea to make a mental health fair to increase awareness of different types of mental health problems,” she said.

The group chose five different categories focusing on:

  • Anxiety;
  • Mood Disorders;
  • PTSD;
  • Behavioral Disorders; and
  • Eating Disorders.

The Student Council members then split up the five disorders to research and make a presentation about their chosen category.

“It was a learning experience for the students,” Wadlington said. “They did a great job and the end result is very informative and enlightening.”

Students who helped with the Mental Health Fair include Abigail Allen, Penelope Barry-Hoffman, Sophie Bathrick-Price, Keira Brown, Luke Creel, Lianna Dare, Allyson Harbert, Irina Maiorov, Harold Mckigney, Nishta Mukundan, Galina Nelson, Katherine Petersen, Leah Rector, Sophia Sisneros, Deja Tafoya, Elizabeth Thomas and Lillian Wolf.
