Dear Parents of a young girl bicycling down from Quemazon about the time Mountain School let out on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 16:
Please let her know how close she came to being injured or killed because she did not stop at the North Road stop sign.
We were coming from Diamond so we could see the car coming from the other direction that she could not because of the rock wall to the left of the intersection.
Luckily, that driver was not just freewheeling down their hill as so many do, but even at their moderate speed, only a second or two was the difference between seeing the bicyclist and hitting her without being able to stop in time.
I’m sure it is both frustrating and not easy for a bike rider to come to a stop at that dangerous intersection. Some means of better visibility for left hand turns from Quemazon to North Road needs to be made.
Meanwhile, all young (and older?) daredevils need to be reminded that there is always traffic when you don’t expect it.
