Letter To The Editor: AVANGRID – Get Our Elected Officials On Record

By PERRY KLARE Esq.
Former LANL Employee
Hilltopper, Class of 1998

I write this as a Hilltopper, class of 1998, and a former LANL employee who worked on Critical Infrastructure Protection. My parents are pillars in this community. They received lifetime achievement awards for being an Orchestra Teacher at the LA Public Schools and for being a Particle Physicist at LANL for over 30 years.

I do not say this lightly. AVANGRID. Please do your own research. They want to be in control of New Mexico’s utilities, where they will have power over the best two Laboratories in the world, three military bases, and a spaceport. Avangrid is owned by a Spanish shell company Iberdrola (CEO accused of spying) whose main stockholders are Monarch Sheiks in Qatar.

This is a bipartisan issue and a National Security concern. I call on the current Land Commissioner, Stephanie Richard, to state her position on this. Does she oppose or support this? The NM Public Regulation Commission will be voting on this merger soon. But, the Land Office oversees energy production in the State, including the Permian Basin. We cannot allow a foreign country to take over our State and National Security resources.

PNM executives have mismanaged the company and are now looking for a bailout that comes with huge bonuses for them. Why should they get million dollar payouts for not doing their job for New Mexicans? Business as usual. I ask that the PRC vote against this and the Land Commissioner Stephanie Richard state her position on this matter.
