Without even making an appointment, seniors will have access to their own nurse Tuesday, Oct. 26 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
“Ask A Nurse” is a project of the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses and local senior centers that offers seniors an opportunity to ask questions and get help from professionals.
LAVNS is a not-for-profit, Hospice and Home Health organization that has been in the community since 1973. LAVNS is available for provide community support and training, and “Ask A Nurse” is its newest effort.
The goal is to spend time with seniors and make their day a little less stressful. The team is willing to help fill pill boxes, sort medications and answer questions on medications.
“While we are there, we can take their blood pressure, O2 sat, and heart rate reading just for fun,” LAVNS Director Wolfe said.
The LAVNS team can assist local seniors with available resources, how to apply compression stockings, home safety education and more.
LAVNS staff also can assist seniors who find themselves in new roles as caregivers. They can suggest ideas related to physical therapy, proper transfer techniques, positioning, how to get out of bed properly and simple range of motion exercises while seated.
LAVNS staff will provide this free service 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Betty Ehart Senior Center at 1101 Bathtub Row and again 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 at the White Rock Senior Center at 137 Longview Dr.
