COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Community Development Department (CDD) and DPS Consulting, are in the process of revising Los Alamos Code of Ordinance Chapter 18 Environment Article II Nuisances.

An invitation was mailed Nov. 22 and a reminder notification Dec. 1, to a random sample of 5,400 selected households in Los Alamos and White Rock to provide feedback to CDD and DPS. The invitations included a unique survey link and pin, along with instructions on how to take the survey.

CDD officials advise that the survey will work in most browsers with the exception of Internet Explorer.  They further explained that the survey will open to the general public Monday, Dec. 13 with a few minor modifications to capture whether the survey taker lives in or outside of the Los Alamos community.  A separate link for this version of the survey will be posted on the Chapter 18 Nuisance Code Update webpage Dec. 13.  The survey will close for everyone Wednesday, Dec. 27. 

Chapter 18 is the section of code that addresses weeds, outdoor storage, dilapidation, refuse and rubbish, and other threats to public health, safety, and welfare occurring on private property. It is enforced by the Los Alamos County Code Enforcement Division within the CDD. 

CDD began the process of updating the code in the summer of 2021 and anticipate that the process will be completed by the spring of 2022. Public input through the survey and feedback a steering committee and members of the Los Alamos County Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB) will help to inform CDD and DPS.

Survey results will be analyzed and summarized in a report that will be made available to the public in early February 22. CDD staff will present the findings to the County Council as part of the Chapter 18 update process.
