NMMNHS News:

Catch the last morning of free Looney Tunes cartoons in the Versus Research Dynatheater, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS), 1801 Mountain Road NW in Albuquerque.

View Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian in “Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century”, the first Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoon – “Fast and Furry-ous” and more.

Afterward, Trax, the Rail Runner mascot, will give a special Science Story Time followed by fun activities and photo opportunities.

Explore real-world projectile physics by making a catapult … and where in the world would you end up if you took a “left turn at Albuquerque”?

Participants from around the state will be on hand in the museum Atrium throughout the event. Every hour, Vice President Van Romero of Research at New Mexico Tech will explain how the Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) explosively tested Wile E. Coyote’s traps for the Road Runner in real life.

Attendees are invited to try to spot a special appearance of Wile E. himself in the Atrium.

The ABQ BioPark will discuss how real Tasmanian devils compare to Taz in the Multipurpose Room.

New Mexico Game and Fish will have natural coyote, skunk and rabbit hides to touch. Discover which real-life animals the Looney Tunes characters are based on and roam the Sandia Mountains with the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center. And see how to take this learning further at St. John’s College and New Mexico Tech.

The community is invited to stop by this fun and educational event to explore how native New Mexican wildlife compares to the cartoon characters in Looney Tunes and how everyday physics compares to cartoon physics.
