Daily Postcard: Winter Solstice Viewed From Bandelier

Daily Postcard: Scene of the sky on a previous winter solstice viewed from Bandelier National Monument. The days are about to start getting longer and the community is invited to gather 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 in front of the visitor center at Bandelier. Remember to dress warmly for standing out in the cold. Especially remember to wear warm footwear. On that day, at that time, attendees will walk approximately 400 yards to the entrance of the village of Tyuonyi in Frijoles Canyon to watch the sunrise. On this, the winter solstice and the shortest day of the year, the sun will rise in alignment with the entrance to that Ancestral Pueblo site. Bring cameras and cell phones to catch this annual event. Courtesy/NPS
