Council Vice Chair James Robinson
Post Staff Report
Los Alamos County Council Vice Chair James Robinson has resigned effective Jan. 1. (See Robinson’s resignation letter below.)
As a result, County Public Information Officer Julie Williams-Hill said that the Jan. 4 council agenda is being modified to identify the next steps to fill Robinson’s vacancy.
According to the County Charter, Council shall “…appoint a qualified person to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term.”
Robinson served on council for three years, which included acting as council liaison for the Board of Public Utilities. He served as council vice chair in 2021.
“I appreciate his three years of dedicated service to the community as a councilor, and his community service prior to being elected,” Council Chair Randall Ryti said. “I will miss our collaborations, and I am sorry to lose a colleague on council.”
Robinson’s Letter of Resignation:
Honorable County Clerk Maestas and County Manager Lynne,
With a heavy heart, I have come to the difficult decision to resign from the Los Alamos County Council as of January 1, 2022.
Election night 2018 will remain one of the high points of my life. Since then, I have been honored and proud to represent the community to the best of my ability. I will never forget the constituents I got to meet and those I was able to help while in office.
I know this news will come as a surprise to some and a disappointment to others. My number one commitment when I ran for Council was to fully represent my community. After three years of service, I am in a position where the demands of my career have become greater and I am stepping away to allow someone else to fill my Councilor role.
My understanding is that Council will seek applications and conduct interviews for my replacement. I encourage everyone who has an interest to apply.
Thank you for all the support I have received from the community during the last three years.
