Los Alamos Council has adopted the radical “Green New Deal” promoted by socialist in Los Alamos. I am confident that the majority of Los Alamos Citizens would faint if they read and understand the impacts of this action.

I requested the Council to postpone the any action on the fatally flawed LARES Final Report, or better yet reject it entirely. It is a socialist dream document full of government overreach and control. Mother nature will not change because the County forces me to replace my gas fired heater and buy an electric car.

There’s no science -based data to substantiate most of the claims made it the report. Killing the oil/gas industry in New Mexico will destroy our school funding.

It is a radical concept and the citizens of Los Alamos have not had a proper, well advertised, opportunity to voice their opinions. It will severely impact limited and/or low income families. It is not equitable. It favors those of elite high incomes. This will completely disrupt any hope for affordable housing in the future.

I can’t afford an electric car. I can’t afford the car charger for my home. My trips to Albuquerque would require overnight stays to charge the batteries. The County cannot afford to condemn and purchase our gas stations. Cost of infrastructure is astronomical. Natural gas heat is way more efficient than electric heat. The County’s electric grid cannot handle the increased loads.

Eight years ago, I installed the maximum possible number of solar panels on my home on North Mesa. It has never been viable and completely stops producing when it snows, thus making it unreliable.

Forced use of mass transit is not viable for me, a handicap person.

If anything, let’s study all forms of energy in concert with the lab and schools to develop a long-range goal of energy INDEPENDENCE, economic viability and reduce costs to the citizens. Cramming the socialist’s ideology down our throats is not the answer.
