While May didn’t really go as planned in many ways, the Betty Ehart Senior Center will finish off the month with some fun events.
The Friends of the Senior Center will sponsor a FREE lunch for anyone new to either center this week. You just need to complete paperwork on the phone or in person, and they will get you signed up. Free membership, free lunch, it doesn’t get any better than this. You just need to be 60 and older and vaccinated for Covid-19, and more fun is just ahead.
Wednesday will host an event with a nod toward Senior Olympics. The Spoken Word is an event, for seniors 50 and up. You may enter any type of reading under four minutes, for a chance to win. The two categories are either presenting in person, or by submitting something anonymous. Those wanting to present their piece, may arrive at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, before 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 25.
If you are a little more shy or just unavailable at that time, drop your entry off before 1 p.m. or email your piece to Director@losalamosseniorcenter.com. You will be contacted after the judging takes place. There’s no fee to compete either way. The winners do not move ahead to the state competition, as the events are limited for 2022. If you’d like a guideline document, call or email us for more information.
The senior centers have organ donation information available and a host of community partner booths throughout the week. Some booths have a chance to register to win prizes, too. They are collecting baby diapers, wipes and larger size disposable underwear, for the Girl Scout Shiny Hiney project.
Finally, May 25 is National Senior Fitness Day. The LARSO team will have information for many classes on hand, Mary Lutes will be available 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to discuss the benefits of Pilates and more. Four of the class teachers have DVDs available for purchase. The teachers are Loretta Stubbs, Yoga with Jacci, Pilates with Mary Lutes and Strength and Balance with Natalie Smith.
Julie Parkison will be teaching a Yoga class in White Rock Wednesday morning, call 505.672.2034 for more information. Natalie Smith will be teaching a Wednesday morning Zumba class, outside in the parking lot, call 505.662.8920 for details. Movement is Magic, and Motion is the Potion!
