By ROBERT C. LITTLEIt is so hard to read your story today about the planned hotel and conference center (link).
The article says that the County gifted the proposed contractor over $3.2 million of value in October 2019.
But, just now, over 2 and a half years later, the county is realizing that TNJLA is unable to move forward with their plans. And worse, our Economic Developer Director is celebrating the “early” identification of the issue? And he wants to “work with the developer again on other opportunities?” Give me a break!
What exactly has the county been doing these last 2 and a half years? Monitoring the situation at all? Surprised? What have we done wrong in this case that the county owes money to the contractor? Why does the contractor not owe money to the county? Who approved the “contract?”
I don’t mind paying taxes … but when those taxes are wasted on incompetent and unmonitored investments, I would hope the county would take some action to avoid future repeats.
