USA BRAIN BEE News:
Seventeen-year-old high school student, Anmol Bhatia, from New Jersey, came in second in the 2022 International Brain Bee (IBB) Championship, a neuroscience competition for high school students.
Bhatia is from Watchung Hills Regional High School. He was first required to win his local chapter competition coordinated by Dr. Steve Levison of Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School. He then had to compete against 44 other chapter winners in the USA National Championship for the right to represent the United States at the World Brain Bee Championship.
The winners were announced at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) Forum 2022 in Paris. The 11 finalists joined the conference stage by Zoom and were introduced by special guest and last year’s World Champion Viktoriia Vydhzak from Ukraine. First place went to Helene Li of Canada. Third place went to Ugne Birstonaite of Lithuania.
The Brain Bee was founded by Dr. Norbert Myslinski of the Department of Neural Sciences at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. It is the world’s premier neuroscience competition for teenagers. The World Championship brings together students from across the world for an important educational and cultural experience.
Thirty one national Brain Bee champions from across the globe took part in the virtual 2022 event held July 2-9, hosted by the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS), and organized in collaboration with the Paris Brain Institute. Each competitor had previously won their national or regional Brain Bee to qualify for the international championship.
FENS President Dr. Jean-Antoine Girault said “It was an honor to celebrate the achievements of these extraordinary high school students, our scientific future!”
Although virtual, the event still took place on center stage and inspired an audience of more than 7,800 scientists.
In addition to the competition, the World Championship program also included a cultural video exchange, keynote lectures, a neuroethics team debate, an interactive neuroscience demonstration, and a career panel.
Most of the session, including the Opening Ceremony and Award Ceremonies were live streamed and can be viewed on YouTube:

Other partners and sponsors of the IBB include Leadership Initiatives, the International Youth Neuroscience Association, and CollegeAdvisor.
Founder Myslinski iterates that “The Brain Bee inspires young men and women to learn about the human brain and apply what they learn to their daily lives; and motivates them to seek professions where they can help treat and find cures for brain disorders. Our motto is ‘The Brain Bee Builds Better Brains to Fight Brain Disorders’.”
