COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County Community Development Department (CDD) and its consultant Site Southwest invite the public to an open house to learn about the draft Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) Plan for White Rock.
The open house will be held at the White Rock Library Multi-Purpose Room, 10 Sherwood Blvd., Wednesday, Aug. 17.
Community members may drop by between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to ask questions and provide feedback on proposed strategies to drive catalytic projects in the downtown.
Proposed strategies include:
- Incentives for Property Owners
- Public-Private Partnership Opportunities,
- District-Wide Public Improvements,
- Increased Commercial Activity, and
- Tax Incentive & Tools.
The draft MRA Plan is part of a multi-year effort undertaken by CDD to define the community’s vision for the White Rock downtown. Supporting the adopted 2016 Comprehensive Plan and the 2021 White Rock Town Center Master Plan, the MRA Plan identifies vacant, deteriorated, or underutilized properties in the downtown boundary. It then introduces strategies and incentives for redevelopment to increase the community’s vibrancy and economic activity and decrease deterioration.
Once the MRA Plan is adopted, it allows for the contribution of public resources to private redevelopment projects, thereby providing a workaround to the state’s anti-donation clause to meet the community’s objectives for the White Rock downtown.
Input received at the open house will be included in a CDD presentation of the Draft MRA Plan to County Council at the 6 p.m. Sept. 20 meeting in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave.
