NMSP Conducts Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Operation In Española & Taos; Results In 133 Citations, 2 Arrests

NMSP News:

TAOS & ESPAÑOLA — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) Bureau conducted a five-day CVE operation in Taos and Española.

The operation ran Aug. 22-26 and was aimed at making sure commercial motor vehicles (CMV) operating on the roadways of northern New Mexico were in proper working order.

CMV safety inspections ensure that commercial vehicles are safe and compliant with Department of Transportation and other federal safety regulations. These inspections are essential because they provide safety not only to the CMV drivers but also other drivers on the roadway.

“CMV enforcement is a vital part of the New Mexico State Police’s commitment to keeping our roadways in New Mexico safe,” NMSP Chief Tim Johnson said. “Operations like these make a positive impact on the citizens in rural areas of the state.”

The operation resulted in:

  • More than 260 CMV inspections;
  • 133 citations written;
  • 61 vehicles and 18 drivers placed out of service;
  • 15 overweight loads; and
  • 2 arrests.

CMV drivers across the state can expect more proactive operations such as this throughout the year.
