EMNRD And Four Colleges Offering Free Energy Conservation Code Training For Construction Industry Pros

EMNRD News:

SANTA FE — The Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department’s Energy Conservation and Management Division (EMNRD) is partnering with four New Mexico Community Colleges to offer free training on the 2018 New Mexico Energy Conservation Code.

This code is now the minimum energy code for new construction projects throughout the state of New Mexico. The training curriculum covers aspects of both residential and commercial energy codes. There are separate courses for professionals involved in the design and build phases of construction and for officials who conduct plan reviews and inspections.

“Correctly deploying modern energy building codes has the dual benefit of reducing climate pollution and creating new jobs,” EMNRD Cabinet Secretary Sarah Cottrell Propst said. “This training will ensure that New Mexicans are able to fill these jobs, bringing economic diversification to our state while getting closer to meeting our climate and clean energy goals.”

The four colleges offering the courses are:

  • Doña Ana Community College in Las Cruces;
  • Northern New Mexico College in Española;
  • San Juan College in Farmington; and
  • Santa Fe Community College.

“New Mexico’s community colleges have a vital role to play in helping current and future construction professionals gain the skills they need on the job while making our state greener,” Higher Education Secretary Stephanie M. Rodriguez said. “I thank our partners at the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department and the four colleges offering these courses for growing New Mexico’s construction trades workforce and expanding the green footprint in New Mexico.”

The courses will be conducted both in person and online. Registration is now open for the first set of courses, which begin later this month.
