ELBA M. RAMIREZ Sept. 29, 2022
Elba M. Ramirez, 98, passed away peacefully at her home in Las Cruces, NM, on September 29, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, José Ramirez, Jr. and son-in-law, José A. Gutierrez. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.
Elba was born in Brownsville, Texas, and raised by her adoptive mother, Lupita Mireles. She moved to various cities in Texas before making New Mexico her home. Elba and José moved to Los Alamos in 1956. They raised five children: Belinda J. Gutierrez (José), Norma A. Ramirez, José Raul Ramirez (Tamie), Minerva C. Apodaca (Tony), and Delpha A. Maunders (Andy).
She leaves behind her five children, 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Elba was not only a hard worker but she loved to work. She was employed by various financial institutions over the years but worked longest at Del Norte Credit Union (Los Alamos Credit Union at the time), retiring in March of 1989 after 28 years. She was extremely proud of her contributions and friendships that she built at the Credit Union.
Elba was a talented and gifted person when it came to dancing, entertaining and building connections with people. Elba loved to dance and sing songs along with the radio. Her smile lit up a room and she was the life of the party, as many of her friends can attest. She loved to watch telenovelas and old Shirley Temple movies. Bingo and playing slot machines at the Casino gave Elba great joy.
Elba will be remembered for her humor, her love of life and her love of those around her. She was full of love, teaching kindness and forgiveness. She never harbored hate or animosity. Through example she instilled these qualities in her family. She was our Matriarch.
Services will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. Please arrive a few minutes early to caravan up to the Pavilion, time slot is only 30 minutes. Reception following at 29 Fonda Road in Eldorado.
