NPS: Capulin Volcano National Monument Hosts Special Artist In Residence Events For November 2022

The National Park Service (NPS) and Capulin Volcano are hosting November Artist in Residence composer Dr. John Sichel.

Dr. Sichel will be spending the month exploring the sights and sounds of Capulin Volcano and take that inspiration home with him to include in future compositions.

Dr. Sichel studied at the Yale School of Music from which he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 1990. He is a member of the full-time music faculty at Raritan Valley Community College. He also is music director of the Madrigal Singers, a Renaissance vocal ensemble based in Cranford, NJ. His hobbies include birding and astronomy.

Capulin is hosting a “Meet and Greet” 1-2 p.m., Nov. 12 at the Capulin Volcano Visitor Center and a presentation on “The Music of Birds” 1-2 p.m., Nov. 18 in the Capulin Volcano Visitor Center Theater.

The community is invited to meet with Sichel about using natural sounds and inspirations from nature in his musical works.

Both events are free and open to the public.
