“The world says, “Stop war,” Christ says, “Make peace.” And the peace which He helps us to make is healing to our minds and bodies and health-giving to our relationships with each other.” –The Reverend Jack Burton, M. A., Vicar, Ellacombe Parish Church Torquay, Devonshire, England in a letter to his parishioners. (From the Signs of the Times column in the Nov. 9, 1968, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel)
“In deep gratitude for the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep us safe and free, let us consider our role in securing peace.” –Christian Science Society of Los Alamos
Two millennia ago, one of Christ Jesus’ original twelve disciples recorded simply and profoundly:
God is Love. (I John 4:16)
Ten years after the Civil War ended, American theologian and Christian healer Mary Baker Eddy wrote:
A few immortal sentences, breathing the omnipotence of divine justice, have been potent to break despotic fetters and abolish the whipping-post and slave market; but oppression neither went down in blood, nor did the breath of freedom come from the cannon’s mouth. Love is the liberator. (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 225:16) and the depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space. That is enough! (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 520:3–5)
All are welcome. For more information, call the Reading Room at 505.709.7069 or visit their website.
