Los Alamos County Assessor Ken Midler Earns New Mexico Certification Appraiser Certificate

Outgoing Los Alamos County Assessor Ken Milder, left, and New Mexico Property Tax Division Director Santiago Chavez hold up Milder’s New Mexico Certification Appraiser certificate Tuesday afternoon in Council Chambers. Milder received the certificate after completing four courses through the International Association of Assessing Officers. Receiving this certificate makes Milder a state certified appraiser through the New Mexico Property Taxation Division. ‘This is something I wanted to achieve since getting into office,’ Midler said. He added that even though he is leaving the Assessor’s Officer in January due to term limit, ‘I still want to learn all the technical aspects of the office.’ As Assessor, Milder said he provided oversight to the office and served as office liaison to the community and provided support to the office. Midler said he has been in public service since coming to Los Alamos permanently in 1974. This has included two terms as Assessor, 12 years total serving on the Board of Public Utilities Board and 12 years total serving on Los Alamos County Council. Despite the lengthy resume, Midler said serving as Assessor, ‘…is probably the most fulfilling public service I’ve done and that’s a lot to do with the staff.’ George Chandler will begin his term in January as the new County Assessor. ‘I think he will do a great job,’ Milder said.
