Members of the Los Alamos High School Varsity Hockey Team were honored Friday during “Senior Recognition Night” at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.
About Seniors Recognized:
Brian Dors – Brian is a Boston Bruins hockey fan and has been playing since he was 3 years old. His fondest hockey memories are traveling to tournaments in Denver. After graduation Brian plans to attend Montana State University, pursuing a computer engineering degree Brian would like to thank his parents and all the coaches who helped him grow as a player, both on and off the ice.
Joe Dunwoody – Joe has been playing hockey since he was 4, is the captain of the Hilltoppers team. Joe’s most memorable hockey moment was breaking his arm in the first game of the Bantam’s season, his mom’s first year back at coaching. He missed the entire regular season, returning to play in the last tournament and scoring the game winning goal to win the entire tournament. Joe also noted another favorite memory was beating Coach Greg in foosball. After graduation Joe plans to study Kinesiology at Montana State or NMSU.
Joe would like to thank his mom and his dad, for always paying for his gear and the countless hockey sticks that he broke, none of it was cheap and his is forever grateful for that. Isaac, thank you for the countless hours working on everything from shooting to footwork in the garage (and for taking that puck to the face from Jack). Jacob – thank you for always pushing me to be my best and never letting me fail. Finally, Jack, thank you for being that little brother that I wanted to make proud. We may fight all the time and not always get along but at the end of the day, the only person I wanted to make proud was you. The 5 of you made me into the man and hockey player I am today, and I will forever be in your debt.
Thank you to all of my coaches for pushing me to my full potential. Coach Jeffery for teaching me how to skate, Coach Kevin for teaching me how to shoot, Coach Corey for making me the leader I am, Coach Brett for teaching me defensive positioning and how to hit, Coach Greg for always fading me up (and making me more conditioned), and Coach Barnes for fine tuning all the aspects these coaches gave me helping to improve my game. One more, who never coached me, but never let me slack off and always believed in me even though he tried not to show it, Mick Matuszak, thank you for always being hard on me, for never letting me take the easy way out, for never letting me slack off and seeing who I could be, as a person not as a player, you’ve always kept me in line and kept me humble.
To all of these coaches and authority figures in my life, thank you for everything you have done. Let’s Go Oklahoma!
Jack Fisher – Jack has been playing hockey since he was 4 years old. Jack’s most memorable hockey moment was when he “absolutely plowed the Durango captain in Durango, after playing 3 games that day.” Floor hockey at the Swavely’s during team dinners was also a highlight of his high school hockey career, “absolutely destroys my kneecaps, but it was all worth it!”
Jack plans to pursue a mechanical engineering degree from NMSU or Montana State University. Jack would like to thank the most loving, wonderful, helpful and caring parents anyone could ask for – “you guys thought me how to be kind, loving, less angry, and how to outshine the bad days with happiness. you guys have helped me through my ups and downs, and I am so thankful for the both of you! I love you both to the moon and back.” Jack would like to thank every one of his teammates throughout the years for making him into the person he is today, and to thank all of his coaches throughout hockey. Jack would like to thank Mrs. Dunwoody for just being one of the most helpful people he knows, and a special thanks to Jojo for being by his side through some of his roughest times.
Lastly – a little bit of wisdom from Jack: Don’t dangle at the blue line.
Ty Hinojosa – Nashville Predators fan and Assistant Captain of the Hilltoppers, started playing hockey when he was 4. His favorite hockey moment was his first time getting on the ice as a Varsity Hilltopper his freshman year. After high school Ty is planning to become a fire fighter. Ty would like to thank his parents for buying his gear, washing it, supporting him and being in his corner throughout his entire life, never giving up on him and never missing a game. Ty would also like to give the biggest thanks to his coaches Greg, Brett, and Ryan as well as his past coaches Kevin, Cory, and Nevin – Ty says “All my coaches have wanted me to succeed and get better.” Lastly, Ty wants to thank Mick Matuzak for healing him up through the years and for being a great friend and mentor.
Callum Mitchell – Callum started playing hockey when he around 5 years old. Callum’s most memorable hockey moment was winning the mid-year tournament in overtime against Telluride his freshman year, noting that team dinner floor hockey at the Swavely’s was also a favorite. After graduation Callum plans to attend college and study environmental science. Callum wants to thank his mom and dad for everything they’ve done for him the person he is today, and for supporting him in everything he does. To his brothers Gavin and Sean, thank you for always being there for me, and thank you for all the great memories that we have shared growing up together. Callum wants to send a shoutout all of his friends and teammates for the memories they’ve made growing up together, and for everything they’ve done for him.
Kameron Remde – Kameron has been playing hockey since he was 7, citing winning the mid-year tournaments his freshman and senior years as his most memorable hockey moments. Kameron also notes that he enjoyed the team dinner at the Swavely’s this year, where he Ian smoked everyone at knee hockey. After graduation Kameron plans to attend Montana State University where he will major in finance and international business. He is also planning to play ACHA hockey at MSU.
Kameron would like to thank his parents for all the early and late nights spent driving and watching him play hockey. Says Kameron – “I absolutely couldn’t imagine anyone else but you two being my biggest supporters.” Kameron would also like to thank his sisters and numerous family members for the endless amounts of support over the past years, especially his grandparents and uncle Marvin. He would also like to give a shout out Coach Barnes, Tom, Kevin and Andrew Blair, Greg, Brett, Nevan, Cory, Kevin(Brake), Ryan, and Isaac. Lastly – a shoutout to all of his former and current teammates and Mick, for helping him through countless injuries.
Jake Sorenson – Jake has been playing hockey since he was 4. His most memorable hockey moment was just weeks ago at the mid-year tournament in Amarillo, having a rap battle with the coaches. Team dinners at Swavely’s with floor hockey as the main event were also a favorite. Jake plans to attend college after graduation but has not yet decided what he’ll study. Jake would like to thank his dad and mom for always supporting him and buying him hockey gear. He also wants to thank all the parents that have supported him and helped him throughout the hockey seasons. Lastly, a special thank you to Mr. Remde and Mr. Mitchell for always giving him car rides to practices or games.
