AFMX News:
ALBUQUERQUE — The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX) and Historic Lobo Theater are teaming up to present “Night at the Oscars” to celebrate the biggest night in Hollywood.
Prior to the pandemic, Night at the Oscars was the hottest invitation in town for filmmakers, film lovers, actors working in New Mexico, and the Albuquerque arts community. “We are excited to bring back our annual Academy Award party that was put on hold in 2020 due to COVID-19,” said Ivan Wiener, Executive Director of AFMX.
The event is Sunday, March 12 at the Historic Lobo Theater in Nob Hill. Doors open at 4 p.m. with the screening of the Academy Awards beginning at 6 p.m. and an after-party to follow. Food and beverage are available for purchase at the Lobo Theater from a special menu. Food and drinks are allowed in the theater.
In past years, the event has been at capacity with attendees dressing in their finest wardrobe as if they were attending the Academy Awards in LA.
Attendees will have a chance to walk the red carpet, enjoy food and beverage before and during the award show, and have chances to win prizes including passes to AFMX 2023 in September. The grand prize for selecting the most correct winners of Oscar statues that evening will be a John Mellencamp autographed Martin guitar, graciously signed by John during his last concert in Albuquerque.
A donation of $10 is suggested to reserve a spot under the Calendar at www.AFMXnm.com. Limited four top tables are available as well for $100 that include a bottle of champagne and four appetizers. For those who cannot attend the screening itself, there will be an after party at the theater where contributions to AFME Foundation can be made. All contributions are tax deductible through the foundation’s 501(c)(3) status and support internships, scholarships, and educational programs for students of film, music, and the arts.
