From Santa Fe Animal Shelter:

An overnight burglary at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter (SFAS) resale store, The Cat, causes temporary closure with current losses exceeding $10,000.

Security cameras captured the break-in and burglary at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 5. A safe, along with other items, were taken. Santa Fe Police are investigating the incident.

It breaks our hearts to report that over the weekend, The Cat on Zafarano was broken into. We first want to thank our community who regularly support the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and the animals in our care by shopping and donating to The Cat Santa Fe.

Second, we want to acknowledge that many are facing challenging times and we are not alone in experiencing the effects of that – we are all in this together. With heavy hearts, we have decided to temporarily close The Cat on Zafarano while we prioritize the mental health and safety of our dedicated staff. While we work to assess the full extent of damages, we hope our generous and dedicated supporters will continue to shop and donate to The Cat on Camino Entrada, which remains open at this time.

As a private nonprofit that does not receive funding from tax dollars, The Cat stores are the heart and soul of our income, each day bringing in enough to cover the average cost of saving just one life at the shelter.

If you’d like to help cover this unfortunate and unexpected expense, donate online, and shop or donate gently used items to The Cat on Camino Entrada.

Anyone with information regarding this burglary is asked to reach out to the Santa Fe Police Department. The Cat Santa Fe is owned and operated by Santa Fe Animal Shelter.
