Today, March 12th marks China’s National Tree-Planting Day.
US Agriculturist Sterling Morton created the first Tree-Planting Day in 1872. It was created in order to inspire our passions for planting and protecting trees, and to protect and improve the natural environment on which we depend.
China’s Tree-Planting Day was initially proposed by our founding father Dr. Sun Yat-sen in 1915. It was regularized in 1930 by the National Government of the Republic of China in commemoration of Dr. Sun who passed away on March 12th. In 1979, the National People’s Congress of People’s Republic of China made a proclamation that March 12 will be China’s National Tree-Planting Day.
On this 2023 Tree-Planting Day, we have seen a video circulating around China. It shows four giant pandas sitting down and having their “Summit Peace Talks” while sharing delicious fresh apple chips on a drizzling spring day in their hometown Sichuan.
What are the four giant pandas discussing?
How would the mysterious Nord Stream pipeline explosions affect our bamboo tree forest we have relied on?
How many bamboo trees do people need to plant for us in order to compensate for the adverse environmental impacts due to the CH4 released to the atmosphere?
According to the estimate done by the researchers at GHGSat, which uses satellites to monitor CH4 emissions, the leak rate from one of four rupture points of the Nord Stream pipeline explosions was 22,920 kilograms per hour. That is equivalent to burning about 630,000 pounds of coal every hour.
For a comparison, each day, the U.S. per capita consumes 8.86 pounds of coal.
In an energy shortage world, how much energy have been wasted?
The video also has conveyed a message:
If giant pandas can sit down together, why can’t our world Giant powers?
