Los Alamos Kite Festival Returns In May 2023

LAAC News:

The Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) has announced that Kite Festival 2023 will include events for youth around town during the month of April and a full weekend of Kites at Overlook Park:

  • May 19: Members and volunteers event at Fuller Lodge Art Center;
  • May 20: Kite Festival Day One at Overlook Park. Kite building workshops, artists and vendors, food vendors and more; and
  • May 21: Kite Festival Day Two with more kite flying and building. Bring a picnic lunch and round out the weekend festivities.

Youth can join one of the many afterschool Kite Building programs with community partners at Mesa Public Library, STEAM Lab, The Family YMCA, The Los Alamos Teen Center and more. Dates and times of Kite Building workshops will be listed on the LAAC Website starting in April. For students in LAAC afterschool programs at the Fuller Lodge Art Center, a special guest artist from the Paseo Project will be visiting and working with them to create a unique art piece together.

Kite Festival isLAAC’s largest community event and prior to COVID-19 closures in 2020, the event saw artists, youth and families participate from all over New Mexico. Hailed as one of the largest of its kind in the Southwest, Kite Festival has something for participants of all ages.
Several community businesses and sponsors have stepped in to make sure this return of Kite Festival is successful and LAAC wants to take a moment to recognize their support.
This event returns and remains free to the public thanks to the support of:
  • Los Alamos Children’s Dentistry
  • Becca Jones and Janet Lovato of Exit Realty
  • Del Norte Credit Union, LOV Foundation
  • WHEEED!
  • Los Alamos MainStreet
  • Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce
  • The McCune Foundation
  • Los Alamos Reporter
  • Los Alamos Daily Post
These sponsors have helped LAAC get to nearly 50% of its funding goals and LAAC said it is incredibly grateful to each of them for their support of the arts in Los Alamos and LAAC’s efforts to bring exciting, unique, art engagement opportunities to the local and neighboring communities.
