DNCU Joins Credit Unions Nationwide Celebrating National Credit Union Youth Month As Financial Literacy Month In New Mexico

DNCU News:

SANTA FE — Longtime New Mexico financial cooperative, Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU), is joining credit unions nationwide in celebrating National Credit Union Youth month this April.

This year’s theme, Unleash the Power of Saving at Your Credit Union™, places a spotlight on the benefits of developing healthy savings habits in young people, and the lifelong advantages of robust financial literacy.

In partnership with the Credit Union Association of New Mexico (CUNA), the Del Norte LOV Foundation (DNLF) and DNCU Community Relations teams successfully lobbied to have the month of April proclaimed “Financial Literacy Month” throughout New Mexico by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. The proclamation highlights the contributions of credit unions throughout the state and the value of resources offered to communities by DNLF and DNCU in schools, nonprofits, and community partners that participate in the Financial Literacy Program.

In addition, DNCU is encouraging New Mexico families to tap into extensive financial education resources customized for young people, including free online financial education courses from Banzai! and Greenpath, financial literacy events at local schools, and its own Baxter’s Bunch and SCORE! Programs that feature perks for young people, including a .25% dividend increase on youth savings accounts, and an optional SCORE! credit card for teens.

“National Credit Youth Month is a useful reminder that it’s never too early to start walking the path towards financial literacy and independence,” DNCU Chief Marketing Officer Kim Currie said. “We’re inviting families throughout our community to stop by any DNCU branch to open a youth account and consider purchasing one of our cute plush Baxter Bears from the Del Norte LOV Foundation.”
