LAPS And NMDOH Host Harm Reduction Overdose Response Training For Parents & Community Members

Los Alamos County has recently experienced an increase in cases of Fentanyl abuse.

To help parents and community members become more educated about this problem and understand what measures to follow to protect students and families, Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS), in conjunction with the New Mexico Department of Health, will host a response training session.

Harm Reduction Overdose Response Training will be held 5 p.m. Monday, May 1 in the Los Alamos Middle School Cafeteria. This family training session is open to all parents and community members.

Paul Maldonado and Chloe Reichelt from the New Mexico Department of Health will lead this training.

Topics to be covered include:

Reasons why people use substances

  • Causes of overdoses;
  • Harm reduction strategies;
  • What Narcan is used for;
  • How to recognize an overdose and how to respond;
  • Symptoms of other types of substance use;
  • Myths and Facts about overdose and Fentanyl.
