UNM-LA News:
The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) has announced that the 9th graduation of its Community Internship Collaboration (CIC) program. The graduation ceremony starts at 4 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, at the SALA Event Center, 2551 Central Ave. The community is invited to attend and celebrate the graduates.
Since 2014, UNM-LA has been partnering with local businesses to provide meaningful work experiences for students and meet local workforce needs through the CIC program. The program teaches students different business skills, from developing a resume to workplace etiquette, and provides them with valuable work experience, college credit and a stipend.
“The Community Internship Collaboration is an incredible opportunity for students to delve into their interests and identify their career paths while being nurtured in a supportive environment,” CIC Program Director Brittany Carpenter said. “The program is also beneficial to the local community since it offers workforce development opportunities to local leaders.”
This semester, the graduation is sponsored by a partnering business, Zia Credit Union. Thalia Moraga, a CIC intern with the Marketing Department at Zia Credit Union, has made significant contributions to the marketing team. Moraga has been working with Laura Loy, VP of Marketing, and has created several Tik Tok videos for Zia Credit Union, which already have more than 400 views.
“We are so pleased to have been paired with Thalia this semester. From day one, she has been a great fit for Zia Credit Union and we have thoroughly enjoyed working with her,” Loy said. “Her original project was to establish our TikTok account and create relevant and entertaining content to post regularly. She has contributed to our marketing in other ways, too, such as filming special events like our 68th-anniversary classic car show in Española and our ribbon-cutting ceremonies in Los Alamos and Santa Fe. Thalia has made such a positive impression on us, that we are moving forward with hiring her after the CIC program concludes.”
UNM-LA is grateful for the continued support of the Los Alamos community and local businesses, who make the CIC program possible. The program has been an excellent way for students to gain work experience, earn college credit, and make valuable contributions to local businesses.
