COMMUNITY News:

Announcing the exciting return of the community Independence Day Children’s Parade and Carnival in White Rock.

Activities begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (366 Grand Canyon Dr.) with a flag ceremony and children’s parade around the block, led by the Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments. Children are invited to festively decorate their bikes, trikes, strollers, wagons, etc. and join the parade. Balloons will be provided for parade participants to add to the fun.

A free carnival on the back lawn of the church follows the parade with popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy for all. Local youth have organized carnival games with prizes such as a fishing booth and bean bag toss. Activities also include an inflatable bounce house, obstacle course, and giant slide, as well as a dunk tank and face painting.

This tradition began more than 40 years ago as a small family neighborhood celebration in White Rock and has grown to involve around 1,000 people.

“Everyone is invited to come, participate, and feel the spirit of our great country as we celebrate the birthday of the USA.”
