PAPNM News:
Thirty-five artists from Plein Air Painters of New Mexico (PAPNM) painted ‘en plein air’ throughout Los Alamos and the surrounding area starting July 29 and continuing this week. The activities culminate with a show by the PAPNM at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. The art show will feature an expected 70 paintings that will be framed, displayed and available for purchase Friday through Sept. 2.
In addition to painting from dawn till dusk, in town and in the wilds, PAPNM Los Alamos Paint Out and Sale Co-Chairs Wendy Ahlm, Albuquerque, and Phyllis Gunderson, Pecos, planned additional events for participants to educate, try something new and just have fun throughout the five days. These festivities included an independent workshop led by renown artist Carole Belliveau who shared new skills with 12 participants on Fuller Lodge lawn.
Additionally, PAPNM members were invited to attend a Friday night’s Concert at Ashley Pond and paint scenes from Saturday’s Farmer’s Market. Village Arts owner Ken Nebel invited Paint Out participants to join his Life Drawing group in the gardens near the Justice Center to paint a portrait of a live model. Plus, painters were treated to a picnic at Camp May with raffles, games, prizes and to take a break from the hot sun.
PAPNM Paint Out members were invited to dinner at Pig +Fig Café and Los Alamos Cantina. Painters also delivered, framed and ready to hang, their two best paintings from the paint-out time period at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. The painters competed in a Quick Draw event where awards were given.
The week concludes with the opening reception and awards presentation 5-7 p.m. Friday, at the Fuller Lodge Art Center. The public is welcome to attend and be the first to see the summer collection of plein air paintings. Collectible Tiny Treasures will also be available for purchase (2” x 3” canvases in decorative tin box).
The show at Fuller Lodge Art Center runs Friday through Sept. 2. The art center’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.
Plein Air Painters of New Mexico is a non-profit organization continuing the legacy of outdoor painting since 2007. Visit their website at https:////www.papnm.org.
