LATC News:

The glorious weather and the exceptional organizational skills of Nicola Winch and David Rutherford made this year’s 6th Annual Joel Williams Memorial Tennis Tournament a resounding success! A lot of great tennis was played with 40 individuals playing a total of 67 matches over a long weekend! Many spectators stayed to watch and cheer, filling the Urban Park bleachers and using camp chairs all around the courts. Spectators were even able to watch doubles drama unfold under the lights, with matches going well into the evening.

Players ranged in age from senior citizen participants to high school tennis stars, with the number one players from Los Alamos and Espanola high schools participating. A huge thank you goes to Sue and Bob Tonelli for the tasty BBQ lunch provided for the players and families on Saturday.

A final and very big “Thank You” goes to our sponsors who provided prizes, raffle items and participation awards. Diadem Tennis provided balls, racquets, tennis bags, hats, grips, dampeners and other items, Atomic Tennis provided lessons, and Bathtub Row Brewery provided a gift certificate and hat. Many, many thanks, we could not have held the tournament without all of the support!

The tournament is held in honor of Joel M. Williams, who led the Los Alamos Tennis Club for many decades. LATC is a loosely organized group of volunteers who help maintain the courts, donate amenities like ball caddies and roll-dries, and advocate for well-maintained and improved facilities.
