‘A Drawing Show’ Winners Named At Opening Reception

STEP UP GALLERY News:

“A Drawing Show: the Backbone of Art” had its opening reception Saturday, Oct. 14 at Step Up Gallery in Mesa Public Library. Monetary prizes were given by Guest Judge of Awards, Ken Nebel, to artists who submitted the top three drawings out of more than 50 juried artworks.

First place honors went to Marilyn Wightman for “Red, White and Green” an exquisite, colored pencil still life of red and white radishes and green beans, Marcia Williams garnered second place with her sensitive life drawing in charcoal, “Despair” and third place went to John Robinson who produced multiple-layered life drawings on canvas called “Nudes”.

Many different drawing media are represented in the pieces of art in the exhibit, including drawing pencil, colored pencils, graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, pastel pencil, markers, conte sticks and scratchboard. The subject matter is equally diverse: portraits, human figures, animals, flowers, landscapes, cityscapes and still-lifes.

The exhibit runs through Nov. 15 at Step Up Gallery.

Much of the art is for sale and can be purchased online at https://stepupgallerymarket.artspan.com/home. Step Up Gallery is in the upper level of Mesa Public Library and open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday. Admission is free.
