Loma Linda Road Improvements Project

Loma Linda neighborhood Halloween festivities will continue as normally scheduled. Work Zone traffic control will be cleared, and all sidewalks will be open. 

Albuquerque Asphalt, Inc. will continue to work in Loma Linda neighborhood at the drainage rundown near 2197 and 2205 Loma Linda Drive. The contractor will clean up the construction area in preparation for the winter suspension. Work will resume in April 2024 which will include removal and replacement of the roadway surface. Hours of work will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

The Contractor will ensure ingress and egress to residents’ homes as much as possible and coordinate driveway apron reconstruction. In addition, services such as mail delivery, trash and recycling collection, school bus, and emergency services will always be maintained. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zone.

Traffic & Streets Projects:

Asphalt Patching Continues on 45th, 46th and 47th Streets off Urban

Weather permitting, crews will be patching asphalt on 45th, 46th and 47th streets. A flagging operation will be in place. Work will continue until completed. Construction hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

North Road and Urban Concrete Work Begins Monday

Crews will be repairing concrete around utility valves along North Road and Urban Street beginning Monday, Oct. 30. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. There will be a moving flagging operation in place. 

Concrete Work on Loma de Escolar Tuesday and Wednesday

Crews will be closing sections of the sidewalk on Loma de Escolar for concrete repair work beginning Tuesday, Oct. 31. One section will be in front of Barranca Mesa Elementary School. The other location is closer to the southeast entrance off Barranca Road. Crews will accommodate pedestrian traffic as needed. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. 

Mesa Public Library West Parking Lot Concrete Work begins Wednesday

Crews will be closing a small section of the west parking lot at the Mesa Public Library to install a concrete drainage apron beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. 

Manhattan Loop Closure at Southeast Entrance for Concrete Work begins Thursday

Franco’s Builder, working under contract for Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets, will close the southeast entrance to Manhattan Loop (off Canyon Road) for concrete work. Residents will be able to access Manhattan Loop at the northwest entrance of the loop.

Weather permitting, work will begin Thursday, Nov. 2. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The closure will remain in place until the work is completed, approximately Nov. 7.  For questions regarding this project, please contact Daniel Campos, Streets Superintendent at 505.500.7321.

Non-County Projects: 

The following construction project are not funded by Los Alamos County. Updates are included to keep residents informed of potential traffic impacts. Questions should be directed to the parties identified within each description. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones.  

Loma Linda Road Closure for Trick or Treat Event Tuesday

Residents in Loma Linda Subdivision will be closing the entrance from 5 to 10 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31 for trick or treating. Residents who live within the subdivision will be allowed access. For questions regarding this event, contact Adam Epperson at 505.695.5697.

Country Lane Road Closure for Block Party Nov. 4

Country Lane will be closed to through traffic at both ends for a block party from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 4. For more information regarding this closure, contact Windy Earls at 505.919.9255.

NNSA – NM 4/East Jemez Road Intersection Improvement Project
UPDATE as of Oct. 13, 2023:

Phase 3 work underway – Traffic impacts are as follows: 

NM 4 –

  • Northbound: One through lane open and one left turn lane available to enter E. Jemez Road
  • Southbound: One through lane open and one right turn lane available to enter E. Jemez Road

NOTE: Southbound motorists on NM 4 wishing to turn right and travel west on E. Jemez Road will need to enter the NEW RIGHT-TURN LANE IN ADVANCE OF THE INTERSECTION, as right turns directly at the intersection are prohibited. Right turns must YIELD to traffic on E. Jemez Road.

E. Jemez Road –

  • One lane of travel is open in each direction (eastbound and westbound).
  • The Bandelier National Monument Tsankawi Unit and parking area remains closed until further notice.

An additional phase will follow, with the project expected to be completed in late 2023 or in the spring of 2024.

To help reduce congestion, commuters are encouraged to carpool, vanpool, or take one of the many bus options. Atomic City Transit is available for Los Alamos locals, and multiple buses and park-and-ride shuttles currently serve the Laboratory, including the new Pojoaque Express that transports workers directly to TA-35 and TA-55 from the Cities of Gold Casino parking lot.
