LACA News:

The Los Alamos Concert Association (LACA) will present eminent pianist Sir Stephen Hough in recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.

The first classical pianist to be awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, he was awarded a Knighthood for Services to Music in the Queen’s Birthday honors in 2022.

Named one of Twenty Living Polymaths by The Economist, Mr. Hough combines a distinguished international career as a pianist with those of composer and writer. His most recent book, a memoir entitled Enough, Scenes from Childood, will be for sale at the concert by Samizdat, the local Los Alamos bookstore. He will be in the lobby to autograph those books following his performance.

Mr. Hough’s program will include his own Partita along with works by Scriabin, Debussy, Liszt and Catalan composer Federico Mompou. A Guardian review of this same program a few months ago stated, “This was a recital that showed just what a keyboard colossus Stephen Hough has become.”

The 2022-23 concert season will see Mr. Hough perform across five continents including return engagements with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the London Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France, and the New York Philharmonic.

Mr. Hough’s extensive discography of over 60 CDs on the Hyperion label has garnered international awards including several Grammy nominations and eight Gramophone Awards. His recording of Mompou’s Musica callada was released earlier this year.

The concert will take place in the Duane Smith Auditorium located at 1300 Diamond Drive on the campus of Los Alamos High School.

Tickets ($35) are available electronically at www.losalamosconcert.org, in Los Alamos at the Fuller Lodge Arts Center and at Smith’s in Los Alamos and White Rock. Tickets for young people ages 6-18 are free. LACA also offers free tickets to all music educators in Northern New Mexico who register at https://losalamosconcert.org/tickets/.
