U.S. SENATE News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) was appointed Nov. 2 to the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee on the Senate Appropriations Committee for the 118th Congress.
The subcommittee’s responsibilities include allocating federal funds to numerous government agencies, departments, and organizations, including the Department of Commerce, Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and National Science Foundation, among several others.
“The Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee oversees government funding in areas that directly impact the health, safety, and well-being of New Mexicans,” Heinrich said. “This new role will allow me to directly advocate for the federal resources our law enforcement agencies need to fight crime in our state and keep our communities safe. I’m eager to get to work to deliver real results that families across New Mexico can count on.”
Heinrich will continue to serve as Chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies, and as a member of the Appropriations Subcommittees on Energy and Water Development, the Financial Services and General Government, the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies, and the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies.
In addition to his Appropriations Committee assignments, Heinrich also serves as Chair of the Joint Economic Committee, a member of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and a member of the Committee on Intelligence.
