‘Nutcracker In The Land Of Enchantment’ Returns To The National Hispanic Cultural Center

NHCC News:

In collaboration with Festival Ballet Albuquerque, join us at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) Dec. 15-17 for the return of a New Mexico holiday classic: Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment!

Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment, choreographed by Patricia Dickinson Wells. The beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker is transported to territorial New Mexico in the late 1800s, with elements of the state’s heritage and traditions incorporated into the story. These New Mexican touches include Spanish dancers, and characters that include Southwestern snakes, sheep, and shepherdesses, lively fandango dancers, a Storyteller doll with children, Mr. Coyote and Ms. Roadrunner, and, most recently, a dancing Zozobra!

Resplendent in classical tradition, this production of The Nutcracker showcases New Mexico’s unique heritage while maintaining the classical grace of its origins. The production’s unique style has led to it being featured in The Wall Street Journal and other national publications. A live orchestra performs under the baton of Maestro Guillermo Figueroa, Music Director of the Santa Fe Symphony.

Tickets range from $14 to $49, with a discount for seniors, students and NHCC members. This performance is part of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs’ New Mexico Traditions program.

Details:

  • 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15;
  • 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16; and
  • 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

Celebrating its 13th anniversary, Nutcracker in the Land of Enchantment has become a holiday classic in its own right, celebrating the traditions of the unique state we call home!
