COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County government officials encourage residents to participate in the ongoing public comment period for proposed ordinance 02-306 to amend the Chapter 6 animal code.
The public is invited to submit comments online at lacnm.com/Animal-Wildlife-Ordinances until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 7 under the “Discussion” accordion.
All written comments received online will be compiled, included with the agenda documentation, and shared with the County Council before the public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 12 in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave. During the public hearing, citizens will also have an opportunity to provide verbal comments directly to councilors prior to their decision for adoption.
Police Chief Dino Sgambellone presented two ordinances at a Nov. 13 town hall:
- The proposed amended animal ordinance; and
- A second draft ordinance to add a new section that prohibits feeding waterfowl and wild animals.
The second ordinance will not be introduced or considered for adoption on Dec. 12. Rather, councilors will discuss the draft ordinance that prohibits feeding waterfowl and wild animals and determine what next steps, if any, will be taken on this proposed ordinance.
A copy of both proposed ordinances and the recorded town hall are available on the County website at lacnm.com/Animal-Wildlife-Ordinances.
