LAHS News:
The Los Alamos High School (LAHS) Swim and Dive Teams continued their early season success with a strong showing at the Cleveland Invitational Dec. 8-9.
Takeshi Shiina, Zane Pederson, Willam Borovina, Jace Kerstiens and Neil Barber led the boys to first place thanks to these strong performances:
- Shiina: First place in the 100 Back with a State qualifying time; and forth place in the 100 Butterfly;
- Pederson: Second place in the 200 Freestyle with a State qualifying time, and third in the 50 Freestyle;
- Borovina: Second in 500 Freestyle with a State qualifying time, and fourth in 200 Free;
- Kerstiens: fourth in 200 Individual Medley; and
- Barber: fourth in 100 Breast.
Divers Asher Koh, Elliot Beveriege and Leland Parker showed up for a 1-2-3 finish, contributing team points to move Los Alamos ahead of second place La Cueva High School. The Rio Rancho boys placed third.
Lena Ronning, Sophia Pieck and Catherine Price led the girls’ team to second place with a trio of first place finishes:
- Ronning: 200 Freestyle;
- Pieck: 100 Freestyle with a State qualifying time; and
- Price: 500 Freestyle.
Pieck also came in second in the 200 Individual Medley with a State qualifying time. Ronning placed second in the 100 Breast.
Price, Ronning, Michelle Lo and Pieck closed out their day with a first-place finish in the 400 Freestyle relay.
The Hilltopper girls team finished behind first place Rio Rancho and ahead of La Cueva High at third place.
Other notable team member performances included Emily McLaughlin who made a State qualifying time in the 100 Butterfly.
Overall, everyone contributed with several swimmers improving their times significantly from previous weeks:
- Samantha Clayton in the 50 and 100 Frees;
- Deb Brug in the 50 Free;
- Jace Kerstiens in the 200 IM;
- Malin Eidenbenz in the 500 Free;
- Sadie Evans in the 100 Back;
- Anna Kerstiens in the 100 Breast; and
- Neil Barber in the 100 Breast.
