Santa Fe Opera Guild Presents Opera In Films Of Francis Ford Coppola & Martin Scorsese With Presenter Mark Tiarks

SFOG News:

The Santa Fe Opera Guild (SFOG) presents Opera in the Films of Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese featuring presenter Mark Tiarks 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 107 W. Barcelona Road in Santa Fe.

Dr. Bernadette Snider, the Guild’s President said, “We are pleased that Santa Fe Opera Guild favorite Mark Tiarks will kick off the first of our educational offerings for 2024. Mr. Tiarks brings a passion to his presentations and we can’t wait to hear how he explores the weaving of operatic scores in the films of Coppola and Scorsese; who are among the most well-loved cinematic intellectuals.”

Two of our greatest living film directors — Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola — have unique connections to the world of opera and have used excerpts from unfamiliar as well as famous works in the scores for the films. This survey looks at how these two cinema geniuses have found inspiration in operatic music, with plentiful video clips from films including The Godfather, Raging Bull, The Age of Innocence, Cape Fear, and Apocalypse Now.

The evening will conclude with a “Meet and Greet” in the lobby with Mr. Tiarks after his presentation.

This is not an activity of Unitarian Universalists of Santa Fe.
