COUNTY News:

Hasse Contracting Company Inc., under contract with Los Alamos County Public Works to construct the Urban Trail Phase I & II Multi-use Trail Project, will be continuing work at three different locations downtown and off Canyon Road during the week of Jan 8.

Weather permitting, areas impacted include:

  • Within the Fuller Lodge grounds adjacent to Central Ave. and heading north towards the Romero Cabin – In this area there will be occasional brief flagger operations on Central Ave. on the south side of Fuller Lodge for construction vehicles accessing the work site. Sidewalk closures within the Fuller Lodge grounds are in effect and pedestrian detour signage has been placed.
  • 20th St. from the Ashley Pond Park parking lot driveway north to the northern walkway to the Manhattan Project National Historic Park Visitor Center, Teen Center, and Los Alamos Visitor Center – In this area a section of the southbound lane on 20th St. will be closed during work hours and traffic will be controlled by flaggers. The section of sidewalk within the work zone will be closed and pedestrian detour signage will be placed to direct pedestrians around the work zone. Pedestrian access to the adjacent building will be maintained during construction.
  • Within the wooded area by the Canyon Road Tennis Courts – In this area the tennis courts parking lot will be closed and utilized as a staging area by the contractor. No traffic or pedestrian impacts are anticipated at this time. Activities will include removing some trees directly along the trail alignment. The design of the trail through this area has minimized the number of trees that need to be removed and includes the planting of new trees to replace any that must be removed.

Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to use caution around construction activities and avoid entering the work zones. Construction hours are planned from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be necessary if construction activities during the week are impacted by weather.

All questions, concerns, or special access needs should be sent to the Public Works Department at lacpw@lacnm.us or call 505.662.8150. Public Works thanks residents and businesses in advance for their cooperation and patience. For additional project details, visit the Public Works department Urban Trail Project webpage.
