Change Coming To N.M. 4/East Jemez Intersection Project

Cone Zone News:

NNSA, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and Star Paving have issued the following message today regarding a change to the N.M. 4/East Jemez Intersection Project.

The Right-Turn Lane on East Jemez Road is to be closed Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024; motorists can turn right at the traffic signal to access southbound N.M. 4.

All construction is weather permitting and is subject to change without notice.

The free right-hand turn lane from East Jemez Road to N.M. 4 will be CLOSED on Thursday, Jan. 11 so that crews can directionally bore a space for conduit to be installed at the median in the southeast corner of N.M. 4. It is anticipated this closure will only be needed for one day.

Eastbound traffic on East Jemez Road will be able to turn right to access southbound N.M. 4 at the traffic signal at the intersection of East Jemez Road and N.M. 4.

Traffic headed in this direction on Jan. 11, 2024 should expect delays.

NOTE: Construction is continuing on the final phase of improvements to the N.M. 4/East Jemez Road intersection through late January or early February 2024. There will be occasional lane closures so crews can install median islands and a permanent traffic signal.

Motorists are reminded to pay attention to the traffic control signs and message boards and obey the lower posted speed limit of 35 MPH. Motorists should use extra caution in the construction zone, expect delays and allow extra time to reach their destinations in the morning and evening.

To help reduce congestion, commuters are encouraged to carpool, vanpool, or take one of the many bus options. Atomic City Transit is available for Los Alamos locals, and multiple buses and park-and-ride shuttles currently serve the Laboratory, including the new Pojoaque Express that transports workers directly to TA-35 and TA-55 from the Cities of Gold Casino parking lot.

LANL employees can visit the Traffic News Hub for the latest information about traffic impediments on-site and en route to the Lab. Find shuttles, the LANL Taxi, vanpools, and more transit information on the LANL Transportation Hub. Community members can visit www.lacnm.com/driveless.
