The temperatures in Los Alamos County tonight are forecast to drop into the single digits.
The County is encouraging residents during extreme cold weather conditions to follow safety tips to keep loved ones, pets and homes safe.
Safety Tips:
- Bring PETS INSIDE: keep outdoor cats inside, walk dogs on a leash and dry their fur and paws when bringing them inside, move livestock to sheltered areas with non-frozen drinking water.
- If you will be out of town during cold weather, LEAVE THE HEAT ON in your home—no lower than 55 degrees—to help prevent pipes from bursting.
- Playing in the snow? Make sure to keep dry. Change WET CLOTHING frequently to prevent a loss of body heat. Wet clothing loses all of its insulating value and transmits heat rapidly.
- Continue to protect yourself from FROSTBITE and HYPOTHERMIA by wearing warm, loose-fitting, lightweight clothing in several layers.
