The community is invited to visit the Los Alamos Nature Center planetarium for the Basics of Astronomy series in January. Starting Jan. 12, take a basic exploration of the stars and constellations of the night sky in the planetarium.
Participants will observe patterns in the night sky and listen to stories told by people around the world from before telescopes existed. Depending on the weather, we may also go outside to see what we can find in the Los Alamos night sky.
The Basics of Astronomy series caters to those interested in astronomy who may not be experts in the field. You are welcome to come to one or all programs in the series. The group will meet at 7 p.m. Fridays, and each week will focus on a different topic: Stars and Constellations Jan. 12, Solar System Tour Jan. 19, Our Galaxy and Beyond Jan. 26, and Ask an Astronomer Feb. 2.
The program is suitable for children aged 10 and up, as well as adults of all ages, with younger elementary school children allowed at parental discretion. Planetarium events are not recommended for those under 6 years old. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for children.
