LACA News:
The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet returns to Los Alamos for a performance presented by the Los Alamos Concert Association (LACA) at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Duane Smith Auditorium.
This Grammy-winning quartet has long set the standard for guitar ensembles. The New York Times called a recent performance “revelatory,” and the Los Angeles Times praised their “…unrivaled joy, technical élan, and questing spirit.”
The quartet’s critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world-music realms continually break new ground.
Their program in Los Alamos, entitled From Bach to Brazil, will feature works by Bach, Beethoven, Copeland, and five Brazilian composers including Douglas Lora, the newest member of the ensemble.
The Duane Smith Auditorium is at 1300 Diamond Drive on the campus of Los Alamos High School.
Tickets ($35) are available electronically at www.losalamosconcert.org, in Los Alamos at the Fuller Lodge Arts Center and at Smith’s in Los Alamos and White Rock. Tickets for young people ages 6-18 are free.
