100+ Women Who Care News:

With more than 30 women in attendance donating up to $100 each, $3,000 was provided to the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) during the 100+ Women Who Care event Thursday, Feb. 1 at SALA Event Center. This was the first event the group has held since the pandemic.

The charitable event was sponsored by Enterprise Bank & Trust, which covered the cost of the venue and catered dinner. The evening featured 3-5 minute presentations by three local nonprofits randomly drawn one week prior to the event. The other presenters were from the First Born Program and Family Strengths Network.

Several people said they valued learning about the work of these nonprofits. Each donor voted for one organization and the one garnering the majority of votes received the funding. The two remaining organizations are eligible for future 100+ Women or the 100 Men Who Care quarterly charitable events.

The evening featured plenty of time for visiting and making new acquaintances while the votes were being tallied.

Both the women’s and men’s 100 Who Care volunteer organizers are continuing to take applications on a year-round, rolling basis from local nonprofit organizations. The Los Alamos Community Foundation is serving as the fiscal agent for these groups.

The application, linked here, has recently been simplified. Those who have already applied this year do not need to re-submit an application.

Applications are open to nonprofits located in and serving Los Alamos County. The 100 Who Care model is based on a national program that encourages local grassroots philanthropy. The volunteers in Los Alamos do not have the capacity to screen regional or statewide giving, but they are happy to share the model with volunteers who want to support local giving in other communities.
